How do I pack for airline travel?
Here’s a few general guidelines:

  • You can find out what the largest Peli case you can use on an aeroplane can be found at http://www.pelican.com/airline_allowance_medium.php.
  • Tape the leads on your NP1s. In fact, make sure all your batteries have the leads taped to prevent them from shorting out with other metal.
  • Carry your NP1s and other lithium batteries with you as part of your carryon.
  • Make sure the company’s insurance will cover your gear on the day of the flight in case it is lost or loaded on the wrong plane.
  • On longer gigs where you have significant prep, ship the bulk of your gear in well packed pelicans with the usual shipping insurance. For a couple of days on a travelling show, this isn’t really practical.
  • Take as much as you can as a carryon, at the very least the minimum required for basic shooting.
  • Unplug all your cables before going through security as they may want to rip everything out. This saves a lot of time for a minor inconvenience at the other end.

Above all, arrive wayyyy early. You don’t know how long it could take, and will all the little oddities we pack, could be anywhere from ten minutes to well over an hour.

I’d like a free Tuna Sub. Where can I get one?
